Buste de Louis LANDA
Le Vauclin
Industrialist and politician born on June 21, 1875, in Le Vauclin and died on December 21, 1935, in Fort-de-France
The bust of Louis LANDA is a commemorative sculpture located in the market square in Le Vauclin. Born into a modest family, he became the owner of a distillery and was the first mixed-race man to own a factory—the Trois-Rivières plant. He served as mayor of Le Vauclin from 1922 until his death in 1935.
The bust was commissioned by his son in 1959 to honor his memory and his contributions to the town.
Before being installed facing the sea, the bust was moved several times.
