Les Coulisses de l’Avenir

Remains of an object used in the 18th century to carry the cane.

Located at the entrance to the town as you leave Le Vauclin, it is the town’s emblem, from which the commune’s first name, “Bourg des Coulisses”, derives until 1758. These were pillars that supported a long wooden gutter in which sugar canes were deposited. This concept enabled the cane to slide down a sort of chute to the distillery mill below.
