Foret Domaniale de Montravail
A protected area renowned for its hiking trails, which are accessible to everyone, and its stunning views.
The Montravail Forest is a paradise for hiking and nature enthusiasts.
Located in the municipality of Sainte-Luce, about 4 km from the town center and 250 m above sea level on the town’s hillside, this 75-hectare forest is a tropical forest where its many plant species, its numerous ravines, and its steep slopes play an important role in soil protection and the regulation of the local water system.
The vegetation consists mainly of hybrid mahogany trees and a few Caribbean pines. However, there are also remarkable Martinique-native species such as the kapok tree, the olive tree, the whitewood, the riverwood… and the forest’s sole giant kapok tree, with a circumference of 5.50 meters.
In addition, this forest is home to an engraved rock (petroglyph) at its edge, a historical relic attesting to the presence and influence of Amerindian civilizations during the pre-Columbian era. A dual-marked trail system has been established.
The “Anoli” trail is a 900-meter path that takes about 30 minutes to walk; the other trail, the “Mangouste,” is slightly longer at about 1.6 kilometers and takes one hour. Along the way, you’ll also learn about the forest vegetation and its history.
